THE OPPORTUNITY
Girl Scouts of Western New York (GSWNY) is comprised of leaders, volunteers, Board members and Girl Scouts, across the nine NYS counties they serve (Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Orleans, and Wyoming) who truly believe in and live the mission every day. This organization provides a distinctive environment that gives girls the tools to develop into women of courage, confidence, and character. Their impact is felt not only within our local communities, but across the country and around the world.
GSWNY is currently seeking their next Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This dynamic, experienced, non-profit leader will provide girl-centric leadership, strategic direction, energy and vision for the development and achievement of the organization’s mission to build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. This individual will be responsible for evaluating the current strategic plan, organizational structure, operations, and finances, in order to work with the Board and Executive Leadership Team (ELT) to align on the vision and on-going strategic priorities that will support the organization’s ability to overcome current and future challenges and meet organizational objectives. They will need to be aligned beliefs and principles and promote an environment of equity, access, and inclusion for all constituents. They will need to be both innovative and agile to address the changes in the marketplace when it comes to funding and membership, while having a respect and understanding for the traditions and mission Girl Scouts was founded upon.

MISSION-DRIVEN WITH AN EQUITABLE & INCLUSIVE LEADERSHIP STYLE
- Serve as a passionate advocate for the Girl Scouts mission, promoting and upholding the organization's commitment to empowering girls and young women to reach their fullest potential through equitable and accessible programming.
- Ensure that all organizational activities align with the Girl Scout Promise and Law, fostering a girl-centric inclusive and nurturing environment that encourages personal growth, leadership development, and community engagement.
- Establish relationships/partnerships across organization both internally and externally amongst the leadership team, employees, volunteers, Girl Scouts, Board, and Girl Scouts of the USA, to build strong teams and alliances, manage conflict, and promote an engaged and inclusive culture built on a foundation of transparency, trust, respect, and accountability.
- Lead and oversee organizational Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Racial Justice, and Belonging (DEIRJB) efforts, ensuring that DEIRJB remains an important and central focus of the Council.
STRATEGIC & VISIONARY
- Develop and execute a strategic vision for GSWNY, identifying emerging trends, opportunities, and challenges within the non-profit sector and the urban, suburban, and rural communities served.
- Develop, implement, oversee and refine a flexible and evolving strategic plan for the Council, incorporating strategic learning and continuous evaluation to assure growth and responsiveness to changes in the market, leveraging available internal and external resources.
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement, leveraging technology and data-driven insights to enhance program delivery, volunteer engagement, and member experiences.
- Lead organizational change initiatives with resilience, empathy, and agility, effectively managing transitions and fostering a culture of adaptability and innovation.
- The CEO and Board have joint responsibility for developing and maintaining a strong working relationship and a system for sharing information that enables the board to effectively carry out its governance role.
PRESENT & VISIBLE, RELATIONSHIP-BUILDER
- Lead GSWNY and the Girl Scout Movement with visible, charismatic leadership and representation for the Council throughout the region and across all nine counties GSWNY serves, and open new doors for membership, funding and governance capacity.
- Consistently communicate the purpose of the organization, develop and implement innovative fundraising strategies, and cultivate relationships with prospective donors, team members, partners, and other relevant constituents to diversify revenue streams and maximize financial support.
- Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with the Board and community members to assure governance functions are carried out effectively.
- Provide support, tools, direction and partnership to the Board Chair in her/his leadership role.
- Working through the ELT, assure all Board committees and task forces are efficiently staffed, managed and developed.
- In addition to providing leadership to the Council, support to the Board and local market visibility, the CEO is the coordinator and primary liaison to GSUSA and the other Girl Scout Council CEOs, serving on national advisory groups, and providing coordination, leadership and advice to the national executive staff and the national Board as needed.
EXECUTIVE ACUMEN- FINANCIAL, OPERATIONAL & ORGANIZATIONAL LEADER OF LEADERS
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of non-profit governance, compliance, and best practices, while effectively engaging with the Board of Directors to drive organizational strategy and impact.
- Develop and maintain a strong leadership team and lead them in recruiting, retaining, coaching and enhancing a high-quality staff throughout the Council to integrate and support all its departments and functions.
- Provide coaching support as needed. Attract and acquire critical talent while retaining and motivating those already on board.
- Through the ELT, the CEO is responsible for all aspects of internal and external operations; including Mission Delivery, External Relations, Finance and Administration, and Board Relations. The CEO will also have responsibility for oversight of the full Council budget.
QUALIFICATIONS
- The CEO will be a compelling, visionary, and authentic leader who will champion the mission of GSWNY and serve as a role model to girls, volunteers and staff.
- The ideal candidate will have at least 8-10 years of experience in a senior leadership position with extensive experience in leading strategic planning, change management, systems integration, internal and external operations, fundraising and personnel management in a large, complex and diverse organization with multiple constituencies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Service Discipline, Public Administration, Business or related area required. Master’s degree in related areas preferred.
- Experience/understanding of membership organizations highly preferred.
- Significant prior experience with board governance and volunteer development is desirable.
- A natural relationship builder, the CEO must be an empowering and motivating manager, a collaborative thinker, and a problem solver who can drive change.
- Ideally, the successful candidate will have access or connections to key decision makers and people of influence in the communities GSWNY serves.
- The CEO should possess the ability to speak publicly, communicating a sincere passion for the mission of the organization and have proven fundraising experience (either within a nonprofit organization or as a board member).
- An inclusive, inspiring and empowering leadership style that endorses teamwork, open, transparent communication, and a sensitivity and respect for diversity amongst all constituents of GSWNY.
- The CEO will be expected to travel, be present, and focus on building relationships and bridges across all nine counties GSWNY serves.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $155,000.00 - $170,000.00 per year
