Position Summary:

Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is looking for an adjunct, part-time Faculty – Dental Assisting instructor. This position involves a range of responsibilities that support our dental program, with key responsibilities including:

  • Teaching Responsibilities:
  1. Prepare and deliver lectures for various dental classes.
  2. Create and update quizzes, proficiencies, assignments, and activities.

  • Classroom and Lab Management:
  1. Acquire and organize materials and equipment needed for classes.
  2. Set up materials and equipment before class sessions.
  3. Maintain inventory control by determining necessary supplies for labs and preparing supply lists for ordering.

  • Student Support:
  1. Tutor students in lab activities during open lab hours.
  2. Provide assistance and guidance to students to ensure their understanding and skill development.

  • Equipment and Facility Maintenance:
  1. Maintain clinical and sterilization equipment.
  2. Conduct water testing for dental units.
  3. Keep the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) manual updated and accessible.

  • Professional Development:
  1. Stay current with reading and research in the field of dental assisting.
  2. Select and integrate new audiovisual materials into the curriculum.

  • Other Duties:
  1. Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Program Chair, ensuring the smooth operation of the dental assisting program.

Faculty members must be flexible with their teaching schedules to accommodate the needs of students, the program, and the college, including teaching at various locations and times.


Required Education/Experience:

  • 1 or more years of clinical practice in a dental office
  • CPR certified
  • Graduate of an Accredited Dental Assisting Program
  • Certified Dental Assistant

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Teaching Experience in a CODA Accredited Dental Assisting Program
  • Clinical experience in General Dentistry
