Mentor: Dr. Selvarangan Ponnazhagan, Department of Pathology

An NIH-funded Postdoctoral position in cancer research is available in the laboratory of Selvarangan Ponnazhagan, PhD, Department of Pathology, UAB.

The position seeks a committed individual interested in multi-disciplinary approaches and collaborative research addressing osteoimmune/oncoimmunology mechanisms of breast cancer resistance and aberrant androgen receptor signaling in castration-resistant prostate cancer. Approaches in these projects involve tumor immunology, gene expression, epigenetics, and preclinical mouse models. The position provides access to diverse research techniques and technologies and offers opportunities for multiple, collaborative research projects.

Requirements: PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or related Biomedical Sciences.

Preferred Qualifications: Background in molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry. Experience in cancer cell biology, in vitro assays, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, gene expression, epigenetics, cancer therapeutics or other areas of cancer research are preferred. Prior experience using mammalian cell culture, standard molecular biology techniques, and animal studies is preferred. Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills in English are expected. Ability to work both independently and as a team player is important. Ability to effectively manage research projects is required, along with strategic planning, prioritization, and goal setting. Enthusiasm, self-motivation, and ability to excel in a rapidly evolving cancer research environment is preferred. Demonstrated scientific productivity, and publication record is expected.

Duties/Responsibilities: The position entails working on multiple projects at any given time. Participation in the design, implementation, and evaluation of research studies. Project leadership involves independent experimental design, strategic planning, execution, data analysis, interpretation, preparation of scientific figures, manuscripts, presentations. 

Start date: Position available from April 01, 2023, until filled. 

Salary: Salary and benefits are commensurate with the NIH and UAB guidelines for Postdoctoral researchers.
