C09 - Contract Employee - Library - Temporary Part-time Evening Supervisor - FY 25
Job Description
The Frederick E. Berry Library at Salem State University is seeking a temporary part-time Help Desk Evening Supervisor. This individual will assist library patrons, supervise student employees, and oversee the evening operations of the library facility. The individual must be able to work at least 20, but no more than 29 hours per week. This is a temporary contracted position that will go until June 2, 2025, but the position has the potential for renewal.
- Ensure the safe and efficient closing of the library
- Supervise student Help Desk employees and assigning tasks
- Answer patron informational and directional questions in person and via phone; direct patrons to appropriate resource areas
- Resolve customer service issues and report security concerns
- Sort and prepare returned materials for shelving and oversee the work of student employees who shelve library materials
- Assist in collecting statistical information
- Confer and consult with Campus Police to maintain security of the facility during evening hours
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Previous experience working in positions that require attention to detail and excellent customer service skills
- Must be self-motivated and highly responsible, with the ability to work successfully with minimal supervision
- Ability to deal politely and tactfully with students, staff, faculty, and public patrons
- Ability to develop the skills required to supervise student employees
- Must be able to commit to evening and weekend availability
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous supervisory experience preferred
- Experience in libraries, bookstores, or retail establishments a plus
- Desktop, laptop, and office equipment troubleshooting

Working Conditions:
This is an in person position with on-campus, in-person responsibilities which may require regular work on evenings and weekends.
