About the Alliance for Rights and Recovery (formerly NYAPRS)
Over the past 3 decades, we have served as a powerful peer-led change agent that has helped to lead the way across New York and the nation in promoting groundbreaking public policies and life-changing programs that effectively support people with major mental health, addiction and trauma-related challenges to succeed in their chosen communities. Our work is grounded in our commitment and passion to promote human rights and self-determination; healing, wellness and recovery; cultural and community connection, social justice, racial equity and gender equality and to provide proven strategies to counter the policies of coercion, discrimination, institutionalization and criminalization.
Since 1993, we have specialized in creating innovative models of peer-to-peer support services, including the first-of-its-kind NYAPRS Peer Bridger™ model that has successfully engaged and supported countless individuals across the nation to leave and/or to live outside of state and community psychiatric hospitals, prisons and adult homes and to find hope, health, dignity and purpose, as a valued member of their chosen community.
