Job Summary

Paradise Valley Community College is seeking a Student Service Analyst (Academic Advisor) who coordinates, administers and implements student academic advisement programs by providing operational planning, program management and evaluation, direct student service delivery, as well as problem-resolution, and technical assistance. The role requires positive interaction and collaboration with the team, students and campus stakeholders.

The Academic Advisor will be responsible for data management and tracking of prospective students utilizing all technology tools available to the business to ensure demonstrated progress towards goals. In addition, the Academic Advisor will prepare narrative and data reports to track outcomes and achievements, actively participate in team meetings and campus events, as well as demonstrate business acumen. The successful candidate will be assigned individual or team special projects to meet the business needs and initiatives of the students, campus and community members. To best serve the students, department, and college, this position requires a physical presence on campus.

Essential Functions

45% Provides professional-level end-to-end academic advice to a caseload of nursing students to support student learning, persistence, and degree completion. Participates in implementing the Guided Pathways Framework. Acts as lead worker and content expert for assigned Field of Interest and guides student services staff on managing assigned cohorts of students. Advises students on educational programs, financial aid, degree requirements, and available support services. Maintains an active student caseload and conducts outreach to potential and/or existing students. Provides educational guidance and assistance for students by planning schedules, recommending courses, and determining appropriate individualized education solutions throughout the student’s lifecycle to ensure courses of study adequately prepare the student for the desired career goal. Supervises a part-time peer leader. Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and community members. Conducts interest, academic, and career assessments during the intake and onboarding process and assists students in developing prescribed academic plans. Assesses student needs and provides holistic approaches to advising, leveraging multiple support resources and referral mechanisms, including but not limited to student finance, career services, tutoring, and other academic departments. Tracks students’ progress toward completion of the program and meets with students regularly to assess progress. Assists with developing and delivering training and professional development to the college community on student recruitment, retention, and advising topics. Serves as the liaison to academic departments and instructional councils within the Field of Interest. Attends Field of Interest meetings and works with Field of Interest faculty to support students' success. Collects, analyzes, and prepares data for reports to support evidence-based decision-making.

25% Facilitates change management activities related to Guided Pathways and the case management approach to program advisement. Provides programmatic support of this model by being an institutional resource to improve and advance the advisement role for student success. Works collaboratively and collegially with academic units and student services throughout the colleges and district to facilitate comprehensive academic support. Acts as college/department liaison to current and prospective students, faculty, staff, and external groups on academic advising and success issues. Coordinates with College and District partners to promote campus and community programs. Develops and delivers training and professional development to faculty and staff on topics related to advising; Interprets and explains College and Maricopa Community College District policies and procedures related to admissions, curriculum, advising, student success, and degree completion. Works with faculty and counselors to develop and deliver student success courses. Supervises and provides work direction to undergraduate student workers as needed. Evaluate performance and provide feedback on occasion. Handles immediate or sensitive issues requiring confidentiality or quality assurance. Escalates matters requiring senior leadership intervention at a Director or Dean level.

15% Develops and assesses student learning outcomes. Conducts assessments. Analyzes and maintains program data to gauge student learning success and program effectiveness. Coordinates implements, and evaluates processes and procedures. Makes recommendations for program improvements.

10% Researches program opportunities, industry standards, trends, best practices, and emerging technologies. Coordinates projects related to student learning, success, and retention. Implements program outreach and/or recruitment and retention. Prepares and presents at new student orientations and information sessions for current and prospective students. Outreach work to student organizations. Designs, develops, maintains, and delivers program resource information, presentations, reports, correspondence, and promotional material.

5% Other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two (2) years of student services or college teaching experience, or experience coordinating, administering, planning, or evaluating programs.

OR

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and four (4) years of student services or college teaching experience, or experience coordinating, administering, planning, or evaluating programs.

 

Desired Qualifications

 1. Master's Degree in Academic Advising, Education, Counseling, Sociology, any liberal arts or sciences discipline, or related field.

2. Two (2) years of student services or college teaching experience or experience coordinating, administering, planning, or evaluating programs.

3. Experience using online student databases (i.e., SIS, PeopleSoft, Banner)

4. Experience applying academic or career advising approaches, theories, and competencies.

5. Please tell us about your experience advising students in the health field.

6. Experience working in an academic advising capacity and/or equivalent experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the role.

7. Effective written communications skills (as evidenced by application materials), experience developing and delivering presentations.
