Montgomery College, Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus, is seeking a full-time Cloud Computing, Networking Technology, and Computer Science faculty member to fill a position starting January 2025. Montgomery College is a regional leader in the delivery of technology education, offering a Cloud Computing and Networking Technology associates degree, as well as three certificates and related non-credit courses. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. The successful candidate will be committed to teaching in a multicultural, student-focused, two-year institution serving students with diverse learning abilities. This position is part of a collective bargaining unit.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Faculty member must be able to teach a range of introductory and advanced courses in cloud computing, networking technology, and computer science.
  • Faculty members are assigned a workload consisting of a standard minimum of thirty (30) equivalent semester hours (ESH) per academic year and may include daytime, evening, and weekend and/or accelerated classes. Faculty members may be assigned to teach at another campus, college location, or online, if needed. Opportunities may exist to teach summer session classes or dual enrollment classes for high school students earning associate’s degrees while completing their high school education on a Montgomery College campus or at area high schools.
  • Faculty members are expected to deliver assigned courses in accordance with college catalog descriptions, discipline course syllabus standards, and any other discipline or college stipulations.
  • Faculty members are expected to incorporate the use of platforms such as Blackboard and other relevant technologies or web-based content, including inexpensive or no-cost resources (OERs), into the development and delivery of instruction.
  • Faculty members are expected to advise, mentor, tutor, and advocate for students, including supporting student scholarship, research, and/or internship opportunities, consulting with students about career opportunities and/or transfer options, and participating in student club activities or enrichment events.
  • Faculty members are expected to maintain an active program of professional development and to seek ongoing professional growth that includes the acquisition of knowledge and skills relevant to both effective pedagogy in their discipline and fostering equity and inclusion both in the classroom and in the broader College community.
  • Faculty members are expected to serve on departmental, campus, and college committees, participate in department, discipline, area, and college meetings, hold office hours, advise students, develop new curricula and supervise undergraduate research projects, participate in grant activities, and to participate in professional organizations and activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in Cloud Computing, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field. Master’s degree must be completed by December 2024.
  • Teaching experience in higher education or in a professional training program or industry.
  • Proficiency with at least one programming language (such as Python, C++, or Java).
  • Knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems (such as Linux or Windows), cloud computing, and networking.
  • Proficiency with and ability to use a Learning Management System (LMS) and other web-based instructional technology to facilitate learning in a web-enhanced environment.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching using a variety of delivery methods, online resources and technology applications across the curriculum.
  • Faculty members are expected to have access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location (i.e., office, classroom, college campus). Montgomery College (MC) provides an MC e-mail account and access to the learning platform, password-protected faculty sections of the website, college listservs, and other faculty communications tools
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least two semesters of recent full-time teaching experience or its equivalent in a higher education institution.
  • Two (2) or more years of professional work experience in Cloud Computing or related field. 
  • Current cloud industrial certification such as CompTIA Cloud+ or a compatible one from a major cloud provider, such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google, IBM or Oracle. 
  • Experience in teaching Windows Servers, Unix/Linux, Python, PowerShell, cloud computing and networking courses, and programming.
  • Proficiency with Java, C++, Python, Discrete Structures, Data Structures.
  • Knowledge of the Internet of Things (IoT), virtualization and digital forensics.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive and equitable teaching practices along with the skills, knowledge, and awareness necessary to effectively support a diverse student population.
  • Experience teaching a wide range of courses offered by the department. 
  • Ability to integrate technology into course delivery to appropriately support or enhance student learning, including use of a Learning Management System and/or teaching distance courses.

Hiring Range: $62,319 to $94,876

  • For international degrees, you must provide US degree equivalency verified by a nationally recognized credential evaluation service.

  • Participation in a retirement plan (Pension or Optional Retirement Plan, depending on the position). If you are already retired from the Maryland State Retirement System, you may not enroll in a Maryland State Retirement System plan at Montgomery College and may have earnings restrictions, per state law.
