About Us

The Second Century Habitat Fund (SCHF) is a nonprofit organization working with landowners and conservation groups to create and enhance pheasant habitat across South Dakota. Governed by a Board of Directors appointed by Governor Kristi Noem, SCHF collaborates with landowners, business owners, pheasant preserve operators, and community leaders to preserve South Dakota’s outdoor heritage.

Mission

To advocate for habitat stewardship, collaborate with communities, and lead conservation efforts by raising funds to support pheasant habitat in South Dakota.

Vision

To restore and protect pheasant habitat, promoting awareness of the importance of sustaining South Dakota’s pheasant hunting traditions for future generations.

Goal

Job Opening: Executive Director

Are you ready to apply your business and leadership skills to a mission-driven role? Are you passionate about South Dakota’s outdoor traditions? SCHF is seeking an Executive Director to oversee operations, lead fundraising, collaborate with the Board, and manage contracted services.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee SCHF operations, programs, and initiatives, ensuring alignment with goals.
  • Lead fundraising efforts, building relationships with donors, partners, and conservation groups.
  • Provide updates and reports to the Board of Directors.
  • Supervise contracted services, including the Development Director and accounting.
  • Act as the public spokesperson for SCHF, representing our mission and programs.
  • Maintain organized records, process financial documents, and oversee budgeting.
  • Prepare board meeting agendas, take meeting minutes, and assist with event planning.
  • Manage SCHF communications, including newsletters and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal nonprofit regulations.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

  • Passion and Work Ethic: Self-driven and committed to SCHF’s mission.
  • Experience: Background in nonprofit management, fundraising, marketing, and working with boards.
  • Business Skills: Strong organizational and accounting skills, focused on operational efficiency.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with outdoor recreation, agriculture, and conservation practices.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Understanding of nonprofit operations and conservation principles.
  • Familiarity with agricultural and wildlife management practices.
  • Public relations experience and ability to represent SCHF effectively.
  • Basic accounting and organizational management skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects, meet deadlines, and engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively.
