Sr. Associate Director, School of Nursing

Job Description

Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) supports Johns Hopkins’ focus on research, teaching and patient care, and its role as a national and global leader in higher education. We create and foster enduring relationships that result in advocacy and philanthropic support for Johns Hopkins University & Medicine—strengthening the institution through partnerships with donors, alumni, volunteer leaders, faculty, students, staff, and patients.

Johns Hopkins University supports a flexible work model which includes four different work modalities. This role has a modified hybrid arrangement with an onsite presence of at least one day per week. The manager will confirm the team’s core onsite days where the majority/all team members will work in the office. Employees who travel on university business can count those days towards their onsite days.

The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing (JHSON) is a globally-recognized leader in nursing education, research, and practice. In U.S. News & World Report rankings, the school is No. 1 nationally for its master's and DNP programs. In addition, JHSON is ranked as the No. 3 nursing school in the world by QS World University. With over 15,000 alumni, the school has an excellent reputation for training of future nursing leaders and nurse educators, and, among other things, specializes in community public health nursing, global nursing, geriatric nursing, and patient safety.

The Institute for Policy Solutions (IPS) works with health policy leaders, innovators, and researchers to redesign the U.S. health system. With the goal of shifting policy and practice to more preventive, value-based and whole-person care, the Institute elevates, develops and implements evidence-based, actionable nurse-led solutions. A focus on eliminating racist policies and structures entrenched in the country’s health care establishment and other systems underpins the Institute’s work.

The Senior Associate Director of Development for the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing (JHSON) is an integral member of a highly successful development and alumni relations (DAR) team at the top-ranked school of nursing. This position is vital to the success of the JHSON development team and will focus on philanthropy for the newly formed Institute for Policy Solution (IPS) at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. Reporting to the Director of Development, this position will secure major gifts primarily for the benefit of the Institute for Policy Solutions (IPS) at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing.

  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 75 major giving ($100,00+) prospects, including planned giving prospects; this work includes moving them along the prospect readiness continuum as appropriate, whether via discovery, cultivation, solicitation, or stewardship visits. This role has a goal of completing at least 75 visits and 100 substantive actions annually.
  • Identify new prospects and evaluate potential donors with a focus on achieving JHU and SON annual goals.
  • Utilize Salesforce (internally known as JHAS) to analyze data, run reports, document efforts, and track progress to individual and team metrics.
  • Prepare case statements, major proposals, solicitation letters, and other cultivation and informational materials for prospects and donors.
  • Collaborate with SON DAR team leadership and DAR partners to identify prospects and new markets.
  • Lead strategy on developing a new category of donors.
  • Assist with planning and staffing SON DAR events, as needed.
  • Represent the Institute for Policy Solutions and SON DAR on internal committees and relationships, as appropriate.
