RESPONSIBILITIES:


 

The Retention Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing strategies to support student retention and success at HutchCC. This role involves collaborating with various departments to provide a comprehensive support system for students, ensuring they have the resources and guidance needed to thrive academically and personally.


 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


 

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for at-risk students.
  • Develop and implement strategies to communicate and connect with at-risk students.
  • Coordinate support services and resources, including counseling, tutoring, social work services, and academic advising.
  • Analyze student data to identify trends and develop targeted retention initiatives.
  • Work with academic departments to design and promote programs that enhance student engagement.
  • Monitor student progress and intervene as necessary to promote retention.
  • Foster relationships with faculty, staff, and external partners to support student success initiatives.
  • Organize and facilitate workshops, seminars, and events that promote student engagement.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with students regarding available resources and support.
  • Collect and analyze data related to student retention and success.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders to showcase the impact of retention efforts.
  • Use data to inform program development and improvements.
  • Stay current with best practices in student retention and support services.
  • Participate in relevant training and professional development opportunities.
  • Provide Academic Advising services to students as needed.
  • Document interactions with students.
  • Provide career counseling services to students as needed.
  • Serve as a member of the CARES team.
  • Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position.
  • Comply with HutchCC policies, practices, and procedures.

 

SECONDARY:


 

  • Perform additional and related responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director of Enrollment Management and Director of Advising.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, student information systems, and retention software solutions.
  • Knowledge of student development theories and practices.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


 

  • Bachelor’s in education, Social Work, Counseling, or Human Services. Masters preferred.
  • Five or more years’ experience in a high-performance, outcomes-driven team, focused on student services in higher education, project management, marketing/advertising communications and/or public relations.

  • Strong leadership skills that can motivate cross-functional teams of people toward project outcomes.
  • Experience in organizing and leading multiple projects at once with different timelines, work teams, and modalities with outstanding problem-solving skills and critical thinking.
  • Creative and innovative approach to project and communication plans using responsive marketing techniques.
  • Work effectively with populations representing diverse backgrounds, life experiences, and abilities.

 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:


 

  • Physical requirements include excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills; excellent organizational skills; ability and willingness to collaborate; work independently; use appropriate judgment and to apply tact and courtesy in difficult situations; light to moderate, indoor work environment.
  • Mental requirements include the ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions about the position.

SALARY and STATUS:


 

The salary is commensurate with qualifications as determined by HutchCC administration. This full-time administrative staff position is 12 months annual, benefit eligible, at-will, and exempt.

HutchCC CSA Job Description Addendum:

  • Satisfy the duties of a Campus Security Authority (CSA) relating to Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (“Clery Act”) by:
    • Promptly reporting Clery Act crimes and/or allegations of Clery Act crimes to the designated HutchCC official(s) in accordance with applicable laws, policies, and procedures;
    • Completing any HutchCC provided CSA training regarding campus safety and crime reporting issues;
    • Assisting in the issuance of timely warnings and emergency notifications in accordance with applicable laws, policies, and procedures;
    • Serving as a resource to students, employees, and others regarding crime prevention, reporting and victim assistance; and
    • Collaborating with the Coordinator of Campus Safety, the Coordinator of Equity & Compliance, and the Director of Human Resources, regarding campus safety and compliance issues.
    • A professional counselor, as designated by HutchCC and whose official responsibilities include providing mental health counseling to members of the HutchCC community, may be exempt from reporting Clery Act crimes and/or allegations of Clery Act crimes when functioning within the scope of the counselor’s license or certification.
