Job Description
POLICE OFFICER, MIT Police Department, to be responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of the MIT community. Will collaborate with campus stakeholders to address safety concerns and promote a culture of mutual respect and understanding with students, researchers, faculty, staff, and visitors from around the world; patrol assigned areas of campus on foot, bicycle, or vehicle to deter and detect criminal activity, respond to emergencies, and provide support during special events, demonstrations, and other campus activities; conduct initial criminal investigations, gather evidence, and collaborate with local law enforcement agencies as necessary; and participate in ongoing training and professional development.
Job Requirements:REQUIRED: Graduation from a full-time MA state or municipal police academy or MPTC-approved equivalent training; a high school diploma or its equivalent; a driver’s license; MA Class A License to Carry; eligibility for appointment as a Massachusetts Special State Police Officer; Massachusetts POST Commission certification or ability to gain POST certification; demonstrated organizational and verbal communication skills; and experience with crisis intervention, conflict resolution, report writing, handling emergency procedures, and community policing principles. Must qualify in the use of firearms. PREFERRED: Two years of law enforcement experience (college/university police department), and an associate’s degree or higher in criminal justice or related subject. Job #24687
Base hourly rate range: $31.19 - $40.85
The schedule consists of working four 8.5-hour shifts with two days off. The schedule cycles when there are less than five regularly scheduled shifts, with compensation remaining at 42.5 hours. Must be able to work all shifts, including holidays and weekends and additional hours as needed.
Employment is contingent upon the completion of satisfactory background checks, a pre-employment medical examination, and drug and psychological screening.
