Sr Associate Director, Prospect Management

Job Description

Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) supports Johns Hopkins’ focus on research, teaching, and patient care, and its role as a national and global leader in higher education. We create and foster enduring relationships that result in advocacy and philanthropic support for Johns Hopkins University & Medicine—strengthening the institution through partnerships with donors, alumni, volunteer leaders, faculty, students, staff, and patients.


Johns Hopkins University supports a flexible work model that includes four different work modalities. This role has a modified hybrid work arrangement with an onsite presence of 1-2 days per week. The manager will confirm the team’s core onsite days where the majority/all team members will work in the office. Employees who travel on university business can count those days towards their onsite days.


The Sr. Associate Director of Prospect Management plays a critical role in supporting the university's fundraising efforts. This role oversees a team that is responsible for identifying, analyzing, and managing prospective donors. This role will partner with Development and Prospect Research leadership, as well as various departments, to enhance the effectiveness of fundraising initiatives and ensure a strategic approach to donor engagement.


Key responsibilities: 

  • Oversee a Prospect Management team. Supervise and motivate team members by assigning tasks, monitoring performance, facilitating training, resolving conflicts, and ensuring compliance with safety and company policies to achieve organizational goals.
  • Align team activities towards building, and strengthening partnerships across functions and stakeholders in DAR.
  • Supervise the implementation of portfolio management services for DAR staff. Analyze portfolios based on various criteria, including size, balance, composition, value, and FY yield. Review the analysis conducted by the team and make recommendations for improvements or changes.
  • Create and implement prospect management policies.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of prospect management strategies. Evaluate strategies in comparison to peer institutions.
  • Regularly meet with DAR leadership and Development offices to understand evolving needs.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to Development Officers and staff regarding best practices for efficient and effective portfolio utilization
  • Collaborate and advise on complex and priority solicitation efforts.
  • Collaborate and advise on high-priority, high-visibility projects and tasks.
  • Identify needed Prospect Management training topics. Prepare and/or present to DAR staff or facilitate Prospect Management team member presentations.
  • Query and analyze JHAS and other data sources as needed for high-priority and complex projects and initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Six (6) years of directly related experience in development research or related field. 


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in higher education development research. 
  • Supervisory experience.

Starting Salary Range: Minimum: $85,500 - Maximum: $149,799 (targeted salary: $110,000; commensurate with experience)
