Law Enforcement Training AcademyGeneral Summary
Supervises students in the TCOLE Basic Police Officer Course and post-academy in the Law Enforcement Training Academy (LETA).
1. Maintains up-to-date knowledge in the teaching field as it relates to modern practices and knowledge of Texas Law Enforcement and TCOLE expectations;
2. Demonstrates willingness and ability to teach various blocks of instruction in the LETA and post-academy courses, including times, locations, and delivery methods, as needed and as reasonably requested by the college;
3. Utilizes appropriately challenging coursework to help students realize their full potential as learners;
4. Administers tests which are appropriate to BPOC course content, including LETA block instruction tests and comprehensive exams measuring overall grasp of course objectives;
5. By various ways and means of instructing students, affirms the worth and dignity of all persons and the right of all persons to learn;
6. Maintains an appropriate learning and assessment climate in the classroom;
7. Prepares adequately for class and arrives promptly at class meetings, and any other scheduled instructional activities;
8. Delivers material in a clear and understandable manner;
9. Submits required TCOLE reports and schedules in a timely manner to the LETA Training Coordinator;
Follows the chain of command when addressing LETA, department, and student concerns;
11. Maintains effective relationships with professional counterparts throughout the college, community and TCOLE organization;
12. Works collaboratively with Advisory Committee utilizing community representatives in recruiting and other LETA needs as appropriate;
13. Assists the LETA Training Coordinator in recruiting, marketing, and outreach for LETA courses and initiatives;
14. Actively participates in college functions and events, and engages in community service.
15. Effectively handles routine procedures necessary for the successful, day-to-day operation of the LETA as delegated by the LETA Training Coordinator and/or Criminal Justice Department Chairman;
16. All other duties as determined by the LETA Training Coordinator;

Minimum Qualifications
Applicant must have a TCOLE Basic Instructor’s Certificate
Preferred Qualifications
An earned Associates degree in Criminal Justice or similar discipline from a regionally accredited institution
