Job Description
The Department of World Languages and Cultures at Salem State University is seeking an in-person adjunct instructor to teach a single section of SPN 201: Intermediate Spanish I during the Spring 2025 semester (January 13, 2025 – May 12, 2025).
Assuming the semester goes well, there is a possibility that our department could offer you one or two sections on a somewhat regular basis in the future.
Course Schedule:
- Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:15 pm – 1:30 pm
- In-person, Sullivan Building, Salem State University
- Some flexibility with the time slot may be possible

Responsibilities:
- Teach SPN 201: Intermediate Spanish I to a diverse group of students
- Facilitate a course that emphasizes both oral expression (at least 25% of the grade) and the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world
- Instruct students in essential grammar topics, including the present subjunctive, present perfect, past perfect, and past subjunctive
- Hold office hours on campus
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Spanish, language education, or a related field
- Experience teaching Spanish at the intermediate level, with a strong emphasis on oral communication and cultural integration
- Near native-level fluency in Spanish
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds with various learning styles
- Familiarity with the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), or similar platforms
- Experience using the Vistas textbook
Working Conditions:
This is a hybrid/remote/on site, in person position with on-campus, in-person responsibilities which may require ocasional/frequent/regular work on evenings and weekends.
